ROCOR: Interview with Archpriest Alexander Ivashevich

Author: Metropolitan Agafangel. Publication date:July 29, 2022. Category: ROCOR .

Archpriest Alexander Ivashevich, Rector of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Holy Trinity Cathedral (Spanish: Catedral Santísima Trinidad) is the first Orthodox cathedral built in Buenos Aires, in the San Telmo area. Historically, it belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Father Alexander Ivashevich has been the rector of the Church of the Holy Trinity for 26 years. He is a second-generation Argentinean and the son of the previous rector, Archpriest Valentin Ivashevich. He graduated from the ROCOR Seminary in Jordanville. Services are held in Spanish and Russian. The community of the Parque Lezama church includes about 50 families. This is a multinational community. There are Russians, Ukrainians, Romanians, Greeks, Serbs, Argentines. 90 percent of marriages that take place in the church are mixed. The parishioners are mostly locals. Those who work in the Russian embassy and related institutions are “not recommended” to visit the Church of the Holy Trinity. Parishioners help those in need. During the pandemic, the church organized a food service and helped with food. Many of the medicine or clothing donations the community collects go to the north of the country.
