Paschal Epistle
of the
Most Reverend Athanasius,
Bishop of Vologda and Veliky Ustiug
ROCA
Great Lent, short-lived in our time, is coming to an end, and already flashes of the mysterious light of the Resurrection of Christ, with the gentle rays of the dawn being born, illuminate the spiritual horizon with the dew of the Spirit on the threshold of sunrise, washing our senses grown old through sin, preparing souls for the all-joyful and gladsome feast of feasts and triumph of triumphs!
Concerning this, the exultant Church proclaims victoriously in the first troparion of the paschal canon “Let us purify our senses and we shall behold Christ radiant with the unapproachable light of the Resurrection ..."
Be not troubled if the Fast for you has not been entirely successful, and if you have collected little oil in the vessel of the soul – be bold with the boldness of the thief, who by his final confession found Paradise, and you shall behold the Kingdom of Heaven in the Divine splendor of the risen Christ!
Archpastors, pastors, monastics and laity – all the faithful children of the True Church – I greet you on the feast of Christ’s Pascha.
CHRIST IS RISEN!
