I
smell a smoothing over, a gilding the lily, ...'a convenient
forgetting'....of the dirty dealings of Moscow and its MP, and too of
the Israeli government,
and also of how the new Israeli government TOOK all of our ROCA properties and gave them to communist-Moscow,
as their repayment for recognizing them. That shameful act, greatly enhanced the prestige of the soviet MP.
However, the basic time-line of people and events seems correct....so that is why I share this.
It was posted on internetsobor.org under ROCA History.
I ask of those who actually lived in the Holy Land when some of these events happened, to respond as to what THEY remember.
Did everyone there, among the old ROCA faithful, receive the MP's new ownership and its clergy, 'with great joy"???

grave of the Abbess Tabitha of Gorny Monastery, (in the world born
Tatiana Minin, 1884? - 30.12.1949) is located on the territory
of the Holy Saviour-Ascension Convent.

The exact date of the transition of Mother Superior Tabitha from the Gorny Monastery to the Eleon [Mount of Olives] Monastery in
the fall of 1945, is not precisely established.
Предположительно, это могло случиться в 1948 году после 9 апреля, когда два объединенных

Presumably, this could have happened in 1948 after April 9, when two Jewish detachments joined together and then attacked the
Arab population of the village of Deir Yasin.

kingdom.

More than thirty nuns of the Gorny Monastery voluntarily left it because of their unwillingness to transfer to the jurisdiction
of the Moscow Patriarchate.
В их числе была и матушка Тавифа, возглавлявшая Горненскую
обитель более двадцати лет.
Among
them was Mother Abbess Tabitha, who had headed the Gorny monastery for more than twenty years.
О том, когда матушка Тавифа (в миру Татьяна) попала на
Святую Землю, неизвестно.
It is not known when Mother Tabitha (Tatiana in the world) first arrived in the Holy Land.

елеонским сестрам, что игуменья Тавифа была "русской чувашкой" родом из Казани.
Her closest assistant, a nun Feoktista/Theoctista (Yagnam), told the Eleos Sisters that the spiritual Father Superior of Mother
Tabitha was a "Russian chuvashka" who was originally from Kazan.
Уже в первые годы послушничества Татьяна Минина стала келейницей
третьей настоятельницы Горненской обители монахини Валентины.
Already in the first years of her novitiate, Tatiana Minina became the kleininess
[cell-attendant] of the third prioress of the Gorny Monastery, the Abbess Valentina.
Благочестивые родители с раннего детства заложили в душу
дочери Татьяны основы христианской жизни и спасительных добродетелей.
Her pious parents from her early childhood, laid the foundation of her Christian life and of the saving virtues in the soul of
their daughter Tatiana.
В Горнем послушница Татьяна невольно приобщилась к управлению
обителью и накопила определенный опыт административной жизни.
In Gorny,
the novice Tatiana unwittingly joined the management of the monastery
and she gained a certain experience in administrative
life.
В
1920 году после смерти настоятельницы Валентины горненские монахини
избрали на должность старшей сестры (настоятельницы) рясофорную
послушницу Татьяну Минину, нареченной при пострижении в мантию Тавифой.
In
1920, after the death of the Abbess Valentina, the Gorny nuns elected
the rank-and-file novice Tatiana Minin, who was named/elected
in the monastic mantle, Tabitha, as their elder sister (their abbess).
В это время Горненская обитель была почти разрушена, ее
храм и домики сестер требовали срочного ремонта.
At
this time the Gorny monastery had been almost destroyed, and its temple and its sisters' houses required urgent repairs.
Монастырская ризница и все ее ценности были утрачены.
The monastic vestry and all its valuables had been lost.

Abbess Tabitha and the nuns of the monastery encountered great difficulties.

Funds for even their basic subsistence were almost nonexistent, and there was no material support coming from anywhere.

Despite all the adversities, by the efforts of Abbess Tabitha and of all of the sisters, the Gorny monastery was restored.

In those years, all historic Russian churches and monasteries in the Holy Land were under the jurisdiction of the ROCA/The
Russian Orthodox Church Abroad.

обители.
The Synod of Bishops of ROCA, decided to reorganize the Gorny Women's Monastery.
В
1924 году обитель получила статус монастыря и старшую сестру Тавифу возвели в сан игуменьи.
In
1924, the women's monastic house, received the status of an official
full monastery, and the elder sister Tabitha was elevated
to the rank of its abbess.

By that time, the number of residents reached 120 people.

Many nuns were Russian immigrant nuns.

Renovated houses surrounded by greenery and flowers pleased the eyes of all those who arrived as guests in the Gorny Monastery.
В
записках принадлежавшего тогда к РПЦЗ архимандрита Киприана (Керна)
отмечалось, что "в Горней кроме церкви, колокольни и часовни имеется
свыше 50 маленьких сестринских домиков, утопающих в зелени холма и
необычно радующих глаз своей живописностью. Горняя —
поистине огромный сад, сколь вещественный, столько и духовный, и в этом
она вполне сохранила мысль своего основателя. В этой обители теперь до
120 сестер, духовно окормляемых матушкой игуменией Тавифой…" (см.: 2).
In
the notes of Archimandrite Cyprian (Kern) belonging to the ROCA, it was
noted that "in Gorny besides the church, the bell tower and the chapel,
there are more than 50 small, sister-cottages- drowning in the midst of
the greenery of the hillside and which is
unusually pleasing to the eye, with its picturesqueness.The mountain is
truly one huge garden, so very spiritual, and in this there is
completely preserved the memory of her foundress: in this abode there
are now up to 120 sisters, all spiritually nurtured
by Mother Abbess Tabitha ... "(see: 2).
На 1 января 1930 года Горненская община при матушке Тавифе состояла из 122-х человек, отмечалось
в "Отчете о состоянии Русской Духовной миссии" РПЦЗ.
On January 1, 1930, the Gorny community with its Abbess, Mother Tabitha, consisted of 122 people, it was noted in the "Report on
the state of the Russian Spiritual Mission" of the ROCA.
Здесь подвизались 6 схимонахинь, 45 манатейных монахинь,
67 рясофорных послушниц и "черниц" — 3 ( 2, c.239 —240 ).
Six schema-nuns, 45 mantia-nuns, 67 rassofor-novices and "niello" - 3 (2, c.239-240) spiritually battled,
['fought the good fight']. there.
В
возрастном плане преобладали монахини в возрасте от от 51 — до 70 лет.
In the age range, nuns between the ages of 51 and 70 predominated.
Моложе
40 лет насчитывалось всего 9 человек, а свыше 70 лет — 12.
Of those under the age of 40, there were only 9 people, and of those over 70 years - 12.
Знавшие игуменью Тавифу отзывались о ней как о подлинной
духовной матери для горненских сестер.
Those
who knew Abbess Tabitha spoke of her as a true spiritual mother for the Gorny sisters.
Она
была красива, умна, трудолюбива, гостеприимна и отзывчива.
She was beautiful, intelligent, hardworking, hospitable and responsive.
Своей единственной привилегией матушка считала трудиться
больше всех.
Her only 'privilege' [distinction] was that Mother Tabitha worked the hardest of all.

с ними участвовала во всех видах работ.
Mother
Superior Tabitha was always among the sisters and participated with them in all kinds of work.
Матушка Тавифа пользовалась уважением среди местных арабов
за проявление постоянной заботы о бедных арабских девочках, которых она принимала в монастырь.
Mother
Tabitha was respected among the local Arabs for showing constant
concern for poor Arab girls, whom she took in to the monastery.
В самом конце 30-х годов среди в обители появилась монахиня
арабского происхождения по имени Елена (Ягнам; позже — старшая сестра Феоктиста из Елеонского монастыря).
At the very end of the thirties, a nun of Arab origin named Elena (Yagnam, later - the elder sister of Feoktista from the Olive
monastery) appeared in the monastery.

Тавифы.
Nun Elena soon became the main assistant helper of Abbess Tabitha.
В
40-х годах в монастырь поступила и 4-летняя арабская девочка Лариса (Хури; ныне — елеонская монахиня Тамара).
In
the 40s, the 4-year-old Arab girl Larissa (Khuri, now - the Nun Tamara) joined the monastery.
Воспитанием
и образованием Ларисы и других арабских детей
занимались в Горнем опытные русские монахини.При игумении Тавифе
большого развития достигли в монастыре шитье, вышивание и живопись.
The education
of Larissa and of the other Arab children engaged in the Gorny
Monastery, were lead by the experienced Russian nuns.
During the rule of Abbess Tabitha, there was a great development
achieved in the monastery in: sewing, embroidery and icon-painting.
Осенью 1938 года матушка Тавифа тяжело болела, что вызвало
некоторые нестроения среди сестер Горненской обители.
In the autumn of 1938, Mother Tabitha became seriously ill, which caused some disruption and disorganization among the sisters
of Gorny Monastery.
Узнав
о них, митрополит Анастасий (Грибановский) в письме
от 18/31 октября 1938 года советовал архимандриту Антонию (Синькевичу):
«...В Горнее следует чаще заглядывать во время болезни матушки Тавифы,
чтобы усмирять особенно строптивых клиросных и других неспокойных сестер
<…> Отцу игумену Серафиму (Горненскому)
следует посоветовать быть осмотрительнее в своем отношении к некоторым
сестрам, чтобы не давать повода к соблазну» (См.:2, с. 241).
Upon
learning of that situation, Metropolitan Anastassy (Gribanovsky), in a
letter dated October 18/31, 1938, advised Archimandrite Anthony
(Sinkevich): "... In Gorny, one should observe more closely and often,
during the illness of Mother Tabitha, and to act to
pacify especially the those among the obstinate celibate and other
troubled sisters" ...> Father Hegumen Seraphim (Gornensky) should be
advised to be more careful in his attitude towards some sisters, so as
not to give rise to temptation "(See: 2, p. 241).
Непредвиденные
события произошли в жизни матушки Тавифы
в 1945 году, когда Святую Землю с паломническим визитом посетил Патриарх
Московский и всея Руси Алексий I (Симанский).По согласованию с
предстоятелем Иерусалимской Церкви Патриарх Московский Алексий I посетил
Горненский монастырь, однако он встретил там холодный
приём — никто из монахинь не подошёл к нему под благословение.
Unforeseen
events occurred in the life of Mother Tabitha in 1945, when the
'Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy I',[Simansky] visited the
Holy Land on a pilgrimage visit. In a pre arranged agreement with the
head of the official Jerusalem Patriarchate, 'Patriarch
of Moscow Alexy I' also visited Gorny Monastery, but he was met with a
cold reception there - and none of the nuns approached him to ask for
his blessing.
Руководство РПЦЗ в Иерусалиме отказалось принять Патриарха Алексия.
The leadership of the ROCOR in Jerusalem refused to receive 'Patriarch Alexy I'
По
этой причине Иерусалимская Патриархия прекратила всякие отношения с РПЦЗ
и запретила ее духовенству служить в принадлежащих ей храмах и в храме
Гроба Господня.
*For this reason, the Patriarchate of Jerusalem
[which has total canonical control over all Orthodox Christians in its territory]
ceased all relations with the ROCA and forbade its clergy to serve in its temples and in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
После
визита Патриарха Алексия I в Иерусалиме под руководством
духовника Горненского монастыря иеромонаха Исаи образовалась сначала
немногочисленная группа русских монахинь, называвших себя «патриаршими».
After
the visit of 'Patriarch Alexy I' in Jerusalem, under the guidance of the
confessor of the Gorny Monastery, Hieromonk Isaiah, a small group of
Russian nuns who called themselves pro-"patriarchal" was formed.
На Елеоне тоже появились «патриаршие» сестры, группировавшиеся
вокруг игумена Серафима (Кузнецова), изгнанного из двух женских монастырей РПЦЗ за его симпатии к Московской патриархии.
On the Mount of Olives there also appeared pro-"patriarchal" sisters clustered around the Hegumen Seraphim (Kuznetsov) who had
been expelled previously from the two women's monasteries of the ROCA for his sympathy for the Moscow Patriarchate.
Матушка Тавифа очень переживала, что в монашеской среде
все более углублялись раскольнические настроения.
Mother Tabitha was very worried that schismatic moods were becoming more and more deepened in the monastic environment.
У нее возникли серьезные трудности в управлении обителью.
She had serious difficulties in managing the monastery.
Осложнились отношения и с руководством Русской духовной
миссии РПЦЗ.
Relations
with the leadership of the Russian Spiritual Mission of the ROCA also became complicated.
Часть сестер Горненской обители не скрывала от игуменьи
своего желания перейти в юрисдикцию Московской патриархии.
Some
of the sisters of the Gorny Monastery did not hide from the Mother
Superior their desire to come under the jurisdiction of the Moscow
Patriarchate.
Другая часть отстаивала позиции игуменьи Тавифы — по-прежнему
оставаться в РПЦЗ.
The
other part of the sisterhood defended the position of Abbess Tabitha - to still remain in ROCA.
В этой непростой ситуации матушка Тавифа просила руководство
РПЦЗ об уходе на покой.
In
this difficult situation, Mother Tabitha asked the leadership of ROCA to bless her to retire.
Тем временем события в Иерусалиме и в Горнем развивались
непредсказуемо.
In the meantime, the events in Jerusalem and Gorny were becoming unpredictable.
Кто-то из недоброжелателей донес главе Русской духовной
миссии РПЦЗ о том, что в обители побывал некий советский агент в ранге дипломата и с ним изволила беседовать игуменья Тавифа.
Some
of the ill-wishers of Abbess Tabitha informed the head of the Russian
Spiritual Mission of ROCA, that a certain Soviet agent
in the rank of a Soviet diplomat, had visited the monastery and Abbess
Tabitha had spoken with him.
Клеветники заподозрили ее в связях с советскими агентами,
что, конечно, не соответствовало действительности.
The slanderers suspected her of having connections with Soviet agents, which, of course, did not correspond to reality.
Узнав
об этих вздорных слухах, начальник Русской духовной
миссии РПЦЗ архимандрит Антоний (Синкевич) спешно и без всяких
разбирательств своим приказом от 27 октября 1945 года незаслуженно
отстранил от управления монастырем всеми уважаемую игумению Тавифу за
всего лишь за одну единственную ее «провинность»: она угостила
в монастырe стаканом чая одного советского консула из Египта,
посетившего Горненский монастырь в качестве обыкновенного паломника или
туриста(1, с.36).
Upon
learning of these absurd rumors, Archimandrite Anthony (Sinkevich), the
head of the Russian Spiritual Mission of ROCOR, hastily
and without any proper proceedings, by his order of October 27, 1945,
undeservedly removed from all of the administration of the monastery,
the respected Abbess Tabitha- simply for only one of her supposed
"faults": i.e. that she offered, in the monastery,
a hospitable glass of tea to a Soviet consul from Egypt who visited the
Gornensky Monastery -as an ordinary pilgrim or tourist (1, p. 36).
Горненские сестры вступились за матушку Тавифу и слезно
просили руководство РПЦЗ вернуть ее в игуменское кресло, но все попытки преданных монахинь оказались тщетными.
The
Gorny sisters stood up for Mother Tabitha and tearfully asked the
leadership of the ROCA to return her to the Abbess chair, but all
attempts of her devotees were futile.
После этих событий число сторонниц перехода в юрисдикцию
Московской патриархии в Горнем стало только увеличиваться.
After
these events, the number of supporters for 'the transition' to go under
the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate in Gorny
was only increasing.
Игуменский
жезл перешел новопостриженной монахине Елисавете (Анненковой).
The Hegumena's staff passed to the newly-made nun, Elisaveta (Annenkova).
Однако и при новой игуменье нестроения в обители не утихали.
However,
under the new abbess, the disorganization in the monastery did not abate.
Иерусалимская
патриархия назначила настоятельницей Горней обители матушку Антонину (Гришко).
The
Jerusalem Patriarchate appointed Mother Superior Antonina (Grishko) to be the abbess of the Gorny monastery.
Глава
Русской духовной миссии РПЦЗ архимандрит Антоний (Синькевич) опечатал
монастырскую церковь во имя Казанской Божией Матери и запретил игуменье
Елисавете (Анненковой) и ее послушным монахиням всякое общение с
«патриаршими» сестрами.
The
head of the Russian Spiritual Mission of the ROCOR, Archimandrite Anthony (Sinkevich)
[later, Archbishop Anthony of Los Angeles of ROCA]
sealed the monastery church, which is dedicated to The
Kazan Mother of God, and forbade Abbess Elisaveta (Annenkova) and her
obedient nuns to communicate with "patriarchal" sisters.
Для последних Иерусалимская патриархия предоставила находящийся
в Эйн-Кареме греческий храм, где богослужения совершал горненский иеромонах Исаия (Cм.: 2).
For the latter,
[the pro MP-Patriarchal nuns], the
Jerusalem Patriarchate provided for their use, the Greek temple in Ein
Karem, where worship services were performed by the Hieromonk Isaiah
(see: 2).

начальник
Русской духовной миссии РПЦЗ архимандрит Антоний (Синькевич) 11/24 июня
1946 года написал в письме митрополиту Анастасию (Грибановскому):
A few months after Mother Tabitha ceased being the abbess, the head of the Russian Spiritual Mission of the ROCA, Archimandrite
Anthony (Sinkevich) wrote on 11/24 June 1946 in a letter to Metropolitan Anastassy (Gribanovsky):
"...Относительно
положения в Горнем я сообщил уже в недавно посланном письме. Могу
добавить
следующее. Прошло уже восемь месяцев от начала наших горненских событий,
за которые я очень много пережил и неоднократно в глубине души задавал
себе вопрос, что было бы, если бы Ваше Высокопреосвященство не
удовлетворили прошения матушки Тавифы об уходе на
покой и оставили ее настоятельницей. Я считал, что оставлять ее нельзя,
еще более чувствовал это по непосредственному убеждению. Но, зная, как
Ваше Высокопреосвященство предпочитаете действовать, г
"...
As
for the situation in Gorny, as I reported already in a letter which I
have sent to you recently, I can add the following: It's
been eight months since the beginning of our Gorny events, for which I
have experienced very much and have repeatedly asked myself in the depth
of my soul, what would have happened if Your Eminence would not have
granted the request of Mother Tabitha for her
retirement, and left her to remain as the abbess. I thought previously
that I could not abandon her, I felt it even more directly, but....
knowing how your Eminence preferred to act,

with caution, I did not think that you would actually remove Mother
Tabitha. Now, watching the events that have already passed, I see how
extremely successful and necessary it was for her to be removed. "As
the abbess, she covered and concealed from me all
the disruptive moods and activities of Soviet agents: If this situation
had continued, the disintegration would have penetrated much deeper and
the Soviets, and their agents would have found it easier to steal the
Gorny Monastery from us. In addition, if
there had been no misfortune in Gorny, we would not have taken the
necessary preventative measures on the Mount of Olives, this situation
would have been a bad

Now,
seeing that the Soviet case in Gorny was not a great success, at least
not to the extent that the ringleaders of the plotters
wanted it, the pro-Soviet elements on Eleon were forced to reckon with
this fact, and they are quite subdued.

большом масштабе приостановлено.
Thus, the abscess turned out to be lanced open and the internal rotting infection- on its previous large scale, was removed.

Therefore,
no matter how painful it may be, it is still necessary to consider this
all, as the most successful combination of circumstances
for us, which, matters apparently, have been sorely witnessed by God

*This uncertain situation in Jerusalem and in

December 5, 1948, Archimandrite Leonid (Lobachev), the head of the
Russian Spiritual Mission of the Moscow Patriarchate, performed
the first MP's solemn service.
В богослужении участвовал и духовник этой обители иеромонах
Исаия.
Hieromonk Isaiah also participated in the MP's divine service.
Оставшиеся в Горненской обители насельницы с большой радостью
встретили архимандрита Леонида.
The residents

for the Soviet MP, some of whom must have been planted agents, or some
poor souls who simply had no where else to live, or were too sick and
too old],
who remained in the Gorny monastery ......"met Archimandrite Leonid with great joy".
[no doubt!...or did they?, though we already know that those rejecting the MP, had fled by night and left Gorny].
WARNING:
This suspicious account truly seems like a pro-MP interpretation of
these events, and apparently comes from a source connected to the MP,
this is typical of their re-rewriting, revising of Russian Church Abroad's history, to suit their goals.

The former abbess of the Gorny Monastery, Abbess Tabitha remained faithful to the ROCOR and lived for a very short time in the
Mount of Olives.

was highly respected by the Abbess Paula (Klyuev, in the schema, Antonia) and all of the Eleon Sisters.
30 декабря 1949 года матушка Тавифа скончалась от инсульта.
On December 30, 1949, Mother Tabitha died of a stroke.
Похоронили новопреставленную монахиню на другой день после
ее смерти.
They buried the newly departed nun, a day after her death.
