Information
to some, misunderstanding English-speaking readers, [especially in the
UK] who have voiced some off and on, complaints to me, about some church news
re-translations that I share:
These articles are taken from our Russian-language ROCA site; internetsobor.org,
so if they are about Greek church affairs, they have been translated
from the
original Greek into Russian, first, [likely by a mindless machine
translation?, and not by a human translator] and then..... via
google-machine-translation, into a strange/with many errors, .... into a
rough 'machine-English'- which I then must humanly-CORRECT
and make sense out of, as best I am able to accomplish,
for my English readers.
GOOGLE makes many errors in translating! What it calls, 'English' is something from outer space! (and not of this earth,
perhaps what Martians might use?).
BUT OUR CHURCH IS NOT IN CONTROL of THESE INTERNET-MACHINE TRANSLATIONS!
What
many do not seem to realize: when any text is machine-translated from
one language into another, it is done by a MIND-LESS
machine...which often makes many errors in translating. Only humanly
translated texts can be semi-trusted. AND, that internet
machine-translating...is NOT under the control of our church, it is
entirely electronically secular...so it translates what IT 'thinks'...is
the most accurate translation....which often is quite wrong...even as to
corrupting/changing the essential MEANING of the full text.
Russian
machine-translated texts, for an example, are following Soviet-Russian
'revised' vocabulary and rules, and hence
they cannot properly translate many Church Slavonic or old-Russian words
or concepts, into any foreign language, such as...modern spoken
English.
The godless communists wrecked/corrupted/debased the old rich Russian language!...just as they did to old Orthodox Russia
and its people too.
So, myself,
with all of my linguistic deficiencies, in sharing such rough texts, I TRY to FIRST make sense out of each sentence,
CATCH THE MEANING, before I share it.
But sometimes I simply cannot! So, do not blame me, if there are
some mistakes, especially from Greek to Russian to a WEIRD
machine-'English', to my, PERSONAL final 'humanly-smoothing out' of it
into a readable sensible decent
non-laughable SANE English.
Also, there is a special problem of translating Greek clerical or place-name titles compared to the typical Russian ones-
they are different, sometimes very different.
And
Orthodox clerical titles from either Russian or Greek have the added
problem: that in commonly accepted Orthodox-Church-English,
we commonly use Anglican terminology...[& often 'King James
English'] as our accepted usage here in America.
Sentence order [Syntax] and also as to the Gender/sex of many words, for people or objects, etc. is VERY different, especially
from Russian into English.
Should it really surprise anyone, that Greek and Russian (as with also English) have many many differences???

His Eminence, Metropolitan of Attica and Viotia, Chrysostom,
performed the deaconal ordination of Konstantinos Popadopoulos, which
was especially remarkable in that he is a beloved and true child of the
Church.

to follow this path, your "I" ceases to work in you and then you begin

Архиерей отвечая на трогательное и выразительное обращение, проявленное в
лице диакона перед его рукоположением сказал так в своей речи,
что "если вы будете точно придерживаться тому, что научила вас наша
Церковь, вы не будете ходить, но вы будете летать".
His Grace, Vladyka Metropolitan Chrysostomos, responding to
the touching and expressive treatment shown on the face of the deacon,
before his ordination, said in his speech to him, that "if you
faithfully adhere to what our
Church has taught you, you will not walk, but you will fly."

special joy and blessing, because today a new man who was raised here in
this sanctuary, who grew up in this temple,
here passed to the Lord, has turned to catechesis/teaching the faith.

В заключение
Преосвященнейший отметил важность работы, проводимой протопресвитером
Михаилом Константиниди, священником, который по его словам, является
образцом послушания и служения Церкви, а также пастырской деятельности,
единением и поддержкой для детей младшего возраста нашей Церкви.
In
conclusion, His Eminence noted the importance of the work carried out by
the Protopresbyter Mikhail Konstantinidi, the priest, who according
to him is a model of obedience and service to the Church, as well as his
pastoral activity, unity and support for the young children of our
Church.
Заканчивая свою
речь владыка сказал: "Внидите в радость Господа нашего", как последовал в
своей духовной хиротонии диакон Константин.
Finishing
his speech, Vladyka said: "Go into the joy of our Lord," as deacon
Constantine followed into his spiritual consecration/ordination.
После Божественной Литургии архиерей поздравил диаконису Афродиту и родителей Панагиотиса и Кириаки.
After the Divine Liturgy, the Bishop congratulated the
deaconess Aphrodite [wife of new Deacon Constantine] and the parents,
Panagiotis and Kyriaki.
В конце службы родственники, друзья и паства пожелали новопосвященному следовать достойным и благословенным путем к Господу!
At the end of the service, relatives, friends, and the faithful
flock, wished the newly ordained, that he follow the worthy and
blessed path of the Lord!
