     The Swedish  company has developed a microchip that can be implanted into a person's hand and loaded there with a COVID passport.

     This was  reported by  APNews with reference to Metro on Friday, December 17.

     In Sweden, Epicenter, a subdermal microchip company, has demonstrated an implant capable of storing a person's COVID passport information.

     The company claims that the implanted chip will be able to read any device using the near field communication (NFC) protocol.

     “Implants are a very versatile technology that can be used for a variety of purposes, and now it is very helpful to have your COVID passport“ at your fingertips ”at all times. If your phone runs out of power, the COVID passport will always be available, ”said company spokesman Hannes Sjoblad.

     Sjoblad explained that the chips can be implanted either between the thumb and forefinger, or into the arm itself just above the wrist. The microchip itself is the size of a grain of rice.

     Sjoblad claims that the implementation process is completely reversible, and next year experts will figure out what the microchips can still be used for.

     According to the researcher of digital cultures Moa Petersen, at the moment in Sweden, about 6,000 people have already implanted a chip in their hand, but this does not mean that they all loaded their COVID passports there. The chips can store not only certificates, but also office documents, bus passes or gym membership.
