ЛОНДОН.LONDON.В последние годы отношения между крупнейшей из восточных католических церквей — Украинской греко-католической церковью (УГКЦ) — и Святым Престолом в настоящее время напряжены, поскольку униаты упрекают Ватикан в том, что папство не оказывает им должной поддержки «перед лицом российской агрессии против Украины в целом и УГКЦ в частности».

In recent years, the relationship between the largest of the Uniate-Eastern Catholic churches - the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) - and the Holy See is currently strained, as the Uniates blame the Vatican for not  giving them the necessary support of the Papacy "in the face of Russian aggression against Ukraine on the whole, and the UGCC in particular. "

 Об этом пишет в своей статье для издания британских католиков «Catholic Herald» Раймонд де Соуза (Raymond J. de Souza), священник архиепископии Кингстон, Онтарио, и главный редактор издания convivium.ca.

По его мнению, у краинские католики считают, что Святой Престол хочет поддерживать хорошие отношения с Русской Православной Церковью, которая якобы тесно связана с Российским президентом Владимиром Путиным.

In his opinion, he believes that the Holy See wants to 'maintain good relations with the Russian Orthodox Church, which is allegedly closely connected with Russian President Vladimir Putin.'

Следствием этого является то, что Святой Престол «не слишком сильно протестует против агрессии Путина в Украине», утверждают украинские греко-католики.

The consequence of this is that the Holy See "does not protest too strongly against Putin's aggression in Ukraine," the Ukrainian Greek Catholics say.

Два события, которые произошли в мае, как считает Раймонд де Соуза, дают основания предполагать, что трудные отношения между Ватиканом и униатами Украины еще нескоро не будут улучшены.

 Two events that occurred in May, according to Raymond de Souza, give grounds to assume that the difficult relations between the Vatican and the Uniates of Ukraine will not be improved soon.

Во-первых, недавно была проведена консистория для номинации новых кардиналов.

 Firstly, a Papal consistory in the Vatican was recently held for the nomination of new cardinals.

 Список из 11 новых кардиналов открывал Луис Рафаэль I Сако, патриарх Вавилонский и глава Халдейской католической церкви, главной восточной католической церкви Ирака.

A list of 11 new cardinals was announced by Luis Rafael I Saco, the 'Patriarch of Babylon and the head of the Chaldean Catholic Church', the main Uniate eastern Catholic church in Iraq.

 Возведение халдо-католического патриарха в достоинство кардинала рассматривалось экспертами как знак солидарности со страждущими иракскими католиками.

The raising/elevating  of the Uniate Chaldean Catholic patriarch to the dignity of a cardinal, was viewed by experts as a sign of the Vatican's solidarity with the suffering Iraqi Catholics.

В 2016 году Папа Франциск сделал аналогичную вещь и для Сирии, хотя в то время он выбрал для возведения в достоинство кардинала не действительно сирийского по происхождению епископа, а итальянца, служившего нунцием в Дамаске.

 In 2016, Pope Francis did a similar thing for Syria, although at that time his choice for the erection to the dignity of a new cardinal, was not really a Syrian by birth, bishop, but an Italian who served as a Papal nuncio in Damascus.

Однако в ходе пяти консисторий, которые созывал для создания новых кардиналов Папа Франциск, он всякий раз обходил Святослава Шевчука, главе УГКЦ и верховного архиепископа Киевского и Галицкого.

 However, during the five consistories that Pope Francis convened to create new cardinals, he always bypassed Svyatoslav Shevchuk, the head of the UGCC and the supreme Uniate 'Archbishop of Kiev and Galicia'.

Предшественники Шевчука, начиная с середины ХХ в., времени, когда УГКЦ была ликвидирована Сталиным, но фактически продолжала существовать в эмиграции и подполье, все были кардиналами.

 Shevchuk's predecessors, beginning with the middle of the 20th century, at the the time when the UGCC was liquidated by Stalin, but which actually continued to exist in exile and underground, were all cardinals.

Папа Франциск намечает новый курс в выборе кардиналов, но, даже учитывая своеобразный характер их избрания в настоящее время, очевидно, что «страдания» местных Церквей и их народов благоприятствуют возведению в достоинство кардинала их католических лидеров.

Pope Francis points out 'a new course in the choice of cardinals', but even given the peculiar nature of their election at the present time, it is obvious that the "sufferings" of local Churches and their peoples, favor the erection/elevation to the dignity of the cardinal, of their local Uniate-Catholic leaders.

 То, что Украина была вновь пропущена в пятый раз за последние пять лет, свидетельствует о том, что голос украинцев меньше резонирует в Риме, чем возражения со стороны православных русских, которые считают само существование УГКЦ оскорблением своей церковной традиции.

The fact that Ukraine was again 'missed for the fifth time in five years' shows that the voice of Ukrainians is less resonant in Rome, than the objections of MP-Orthodox Russians who consider the very existence of the Uniate-UGCC as an insult to their church tradition.

Второй признак того, что отношения УГКЦ и Святого Престола отличаются сложностью, как утверждает де Соуза, проявился, когда Папа Франциск принял делегацию Русской Православной Церкви во главе с митрополитом Иларионом, председателем Отдела внешних церковных связей Московского Патриархата.

 The second sign that the relations between the UGCC and the Holy See are 'complex', as De Souza claims, was manifested when Pope Francis received a delegation of the MP-Russian Orthodox Church led by MP-Metropolitan Hilarion-(Alfarov),  chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.

 Во время встречи Папа Франциск выступил с обращением, которое было тепло встречено и поддержано русскими православными.

During the meeting,  Pope Francis issued an address that was warmly received and supported by the MP-Russian Orthodox.

 Понтифик тогда заявил, что никогда не допустит раскола в Русской Церкви и признает в ней только Московский Патриархат.

The Pontiff then declared that 'he would never allow/'permit'.... any split/schism in the Russian Church and that he recognized only the Moscow Patriarchate, as it'.

На Украине сегодня предпринимается попытка создать новую поместную Православную Церковь, независимую от Москвы.

In Ukraine today, an attempt is being made to create a new local Ukrainian Orthodox Church, one independent of Moscow.

 Этот проект поддерживается украинским правительством, напоминает де Соуза.

This project is supported by the Ukrainian government, recalls De Souza.

УГКЦ поддерживает усилия по созданию нового православного патриархата на Украине, автокефального и независимого от Москвы.

The UGCC supports efforts to create a new Orthodox Patriarchate in Ukraine, autocephalous and independent of Moscow.

«Это разгневало русских православных, поэтому они были очень рады услышать, что Святой Отец - по крайней мере, на словах встал на их сторону», — отмечает автор статьи в «Catholic Herald» .

 "This angered the MP-Russian Orthodox, so they were very happy to hear that the Holy Father - at least in words, took their side," - the author of the article in the Catholic Herald notes.

«Католическая Церковь, католические церкви не должны участвовать ни во внутренних делах Русской Православной Церкви, ни в политических вопросах», — сказал Папа Франциск.

 "The Catholic Church itself, and its local Catholic churches, should not interfere in the internal affairs of the MP-Russian Orthodox Church, nor in political matters," said Pope Francis.

«Это мое отношение и отношение Святого Престола сегодня.

 "This is my attitude and attitude of the Holy See today.

А те, кто вмешиваются, не повинуются Святому Престолу», — резюмировал понтифик.

 And those who thus interfere, are not obeying the Holy See, "   summed up the pontiff.

Who?.... in this case, could Pope Francis mean?

Русские православные, безусловно, пришли к выводу, что Святой Отец говорил об УГКЦ и Шевчуке.

 The MP-Russian Orthodox,of course,...came to the logical conclusion that the Holy Father spoke about the UGCC and Shevchuk.

Трудно думать о каком-либо другом правдоподобном кандидате с учетом нынешних обстоятельств», — пишет де Соуза.

It's hard to think of any other plausible candidate, given the current circumstances, "de Souza wrote.

«В последние годы Ватиканское сдерживание по отношению к УГКЦ или терпимость к нападкам на УГКЦ со стороны русских православных считались частью цены, требуемой Московским Патриархатом для встречи с Папой Франциском — в чем ранее было отказано святому Иоанну Павлу II.

 "In recent years, Vatican deterrence against the UGCC or tolerance for attacks on the UGCC by the MP-Russian Orthodox has been considered part of the price required by the Moscow Patriarchate, of the Vatican, in order to allow a meeting with Pope Francis IN RUSSIA, - which meeting was previously denied to St. John Paul II, by Moscow.

Эта историческая встреча состоялась в Гаване в феврале 2016 года», — отмечает американский священник.

 However, this historic substitute meeting was held, rather,  in Havana, Cuba,  in February 2016, "the American priest said.

 «Вопрос в том, потребуют ли новые отношения между Святым Престолом и Русским Православием постоянных напряженных отношений между католиками, а именно Святым Престолом и восточными католиками из УГКЦ.

 "The question is whether the new relationship between the Holy See and the MP-Russian Orthodoxy will require constant tensions between Catholics, namely the Holy See and the Uniate Ukrainian Eastern Catholics of the UGCC.

Недавние события говорят о том, что будет так».
