On the eve of that evening, our dear, devout subdeacon James Goodey departed to the Lord.

His was an outstanding personality.

With his late wife, who also accepted the Orthodox faith, they had thirteen souls of children and adopted another ..

It is worth recalling his brilliant academic career.
В возрасте 30 лет уже заведовал кафедрой итальянского языка и литературы в Университете г. Лион.
At the age of 30 years he was in charge of the Department of Italian Language and Literature at the University of Lyon.
На международном уровне признан, как один из самых крупных специалистов по Данте.
He was internationally recognized as one of the biggest experts on Dante.
В течении 10 лет был ректором лионского университета.
For 10 years he was rector of the University of Lyon.
Был награждён самыми высокими итальянскими орденами, как монархическими, так и республиканскими.
He was awarded the highest Italian orders as a monarchical and a republican expert.
Был также награждён французским орденом почёта из рук тогдашнего премьер-министра Раймона Барра.

deeply religious man, he was born into a Catholic family, but he could
not accept the new policy of the Catholic Church after the Second
Vatican Council.

могла удовлетвориться такой полумерой и в 1970 году принял православную
веру в Зарубежной Церкви.
At
one time he visited the local [uniate] parish of the 'Eastern Rite',
but his sincere soul could not be satisfied with a half-measure, and in
1970 he adopted the Orthodox faith in the Church Abroad.
Был посвящен в чтецы Архиепископом Антонием Женевским и в иподиаконы Архиепископом Серафимом Брюссельским.
He
was tonsured as a reader by Archbishop Anthony of Geneva and then
later, ordained as a subdeacon by Archbishop Seraphim of Brussels.
Верный и деятельный член свято-Николаевского храма, с 1991 по 2015 гг был членом приходского совета.
He was a faithful
and active a member of the St. Nicholas Church, in Lyon, from 1991 to
2015, and he was also a member of its parish council.
Последние
годы, по благословению нашего настоятеля протоиерея Христо, после
каждой Литургии говорил высокодуховные проповеди, которые стоят на
«Карловчанине» в отделе «Православная Франция».
In
recent years, with the blessing of our rector Archpriest Christo, after
every Liturgy he gave highly spiritual sermons, which are on the
"Karlovchanine" in the department [website], of "Orthodox France."
Когда
появился раскол в Зарубежной Церкви, иподиакон Иаков принял самое
деятельное участие в том, чтобы свято-Николаевский храм в Лионе остался
верен исторической Зарубежной Церкви под омофором Блаженнейшего
Митрополита Виталия.
When
there was a division in the Orthodox Church, Subdeacon James did his
best, so that St. Nicholas Church in Lyon remained faithful to the
historical Orthodox Church under the omophorion of Metropolitan Vitaly.
Утешительно
было в прошлое воскресенье, в самый день десятилетия кончины
Митрополита Виталия, возносить молитвы ко Господу о упокоение душ
великого Святителя и новопреставленного иподиакона, этих двух Его
вернейших служителей, объединённых Провидением в единую молитву.
It
was comforting that on this last Sunday, he reposed, on the same day
[10 years ago] of the death of Metropolitan Vitaly, for which we offer
our prayers to the Lord for the repose of both of these souls, of the
great Met. Vitaly, and also for the newly departed Subdeacon James,
these two faithful servants of His, united in common prayer by Divine
Providence.

God rest the soul of His faithful servant!
